Small Business
The challenge for a small business is to get their IT system to be cost effective.
The needs we believe you have are:
- You need a budget so you can plan. IT should, bar theft or damage, be a known cost.
- You need a plan as to how IT will help you grow
- Ensure you are secure, your data cannot be accessed by third parties
- You are secure against hackers
- You meet any compliance needs
- You have excellent reliable systems Your team have someone to call when something goes wrong, you are the business owner who does not want to hear about IT, you have enough to do.
- You have access to knowledge when answering tenders for work or cyber insurance requirements about what you have.
There is a turnover of staff, so we have to ensure we are protected against bad actors, we have backup’s in place and access for you to get into emails when problems arise. - You need a shared file system and shared printers.
- You need your computers and printers to be reliable and always available.
- Your staff will have occasional problems with their computers and you need them to be back up and running as soon as possible.
- Your telephone solution working for you. There is so much a telephone system can do, but we provide a solution and then help you get the best of out of it without over complicating it.
- You will need the right internet provision for your business needs. With our access to the Openreach network and knowledge of other suppliers we will recommend what you should do. Any problems with the internet can be a disaster for your business, our access to mobile networks can keep you going.
Above all what these businesses want it a one stop shop. They have a problem, they call us and we are responsive in solving the issue, be that remotely or on site. You want yourself to have confidence in our abilities and your staff to be happy to work with us.
Some Examples
A number of years ago in Uxbridge Network Rail cut a major fibre cable. Our customer, a vet, like other businesses lost telephone and broadband. We had a 4G backup in place. Life got busier, as large brands like Pets At Home and independent vets had to close, unable to process payments and run their systems. The managing director doesn’t get involved in IT anymore, it all runs around him whilst he gets on with treating animals and building the business. He tells us what he wants to happen, and we make it happen. If we see areas of improvement, we tell him the benefits, and if he wants we implement them.
Another business with 15 employees is in a poor internet area. Again we have 4G backup which kept the business working when someone knocked the telephone pole down breaking the cables. Bandwidth had been only just acceptable before this but a decision was made to go Starlink. Costing roughly the same as a leased line but a lease line would have been on the same pole! We provide all their technology to run the business including CCTV. It all works, and once again the Managing Director runs the business whilst we sort out the computers.
As a final example, we have had a small metal fabricator for a number of years. They took over another business with an incumbent IT. Everything was slow and failing. The incumbent was slow to respond, didn’t resolve the performance issues, sold them a faster internet as they complained it was slow and told them nearly all their computers needed replacing. Access to local files was slow, email was terrible. We were asked to help, looked around and found there were very old network and slow switches around the building. We replaced those and performance improved, staff became happier. The cost of the switches about £350. Having got the network in place we could then examine all the computers, some needed replacing, but not all. Quite simply we put the IT to a level they were already paying the incumbent for and were responsive. A few months later a referral came in for a new customer from them. Upon arrival for the sales call, we were told “I want what he has”
A good IT supplier doesn’t require rocket scientists, it requires: Responsiveness Ownership of problems Honesty and integrity to propose the right solutions This is built on a foundation of skills and experience.
